What is Green Tea?

All teas come from the Camellia Sinensis plant or a genus of this plant.
In fact, it is the same tea but it is processed differently. The normal black tea is obtained by fermenting the tea leaves. This fermentation changes its color and flavor, while raising the level of caffeine and tannin in it. On the other hand, in the case of Green Tea, the tea leaves are dried or slightly steamed but not fermented. This is what makes it look green when it’s brewed.

How to consume Green Tea?

  • Brew the green tea properly. Boil the water until it just reaches a simmer, then remove from heat and wait 30-60 seconds before using it, so it can cool down a bit.
  • Place your tea leaves in the warmed pot. If possible, try to use loose tea leaves for higher quality tea, as opposed to tea bags. The standard guideline is one teaspoon (3 grams) of tea for each 8 ounce cup of water. So if you are serving yourself, just use one teaspoon of tea.
  • Pour the boiled water over the tea leaves and let them steep for 1-3 minutes and then strain out the leaves.
  • Avoid adding any sugar, milk or other additives to your tea.
You can often get up to three brews from the same leaves.
